I rang the alarm
but the sirens stayed quiet,
faces turning away
like I’d staged the whole scene.
No teeth, no claws—
just me,
wild-eyed,
pointing at shadows
no one else could see.
Their silence felt sharp,
like I broke something
by being afraid.
I wasn’t in danger,
but I was in trouble—
and that was worse.
